I bought this bag to use as a purse. It's solidly made and as described. That description is pretty vague, though, so here's some more info. The manufacturer's website lists the dimensions as 8 1/2" x 12" x 4". That's pretty accurate. It functions as taller than the 8 1/2" because the width at the top hangs down unless the bag is stuffed full. My bag measured a bit narrower than the 12", but made up for it by being deeper than 4" which doesn't include the front pockets.. (My measurements are all on the "ish" side due to using a rigid ruler.) The front closure hardware are magnetic snaps which is what I was hoping. The internal pocket is flat, zippered, a slightly thinner canvas than the thick stuff on the rest of the bag, and hangs down from where it's attached at the top rear of the main compartment. It measures 7 1/2"W x 5"H with a usable width of 6 1/2" due to trim. The strap is 1 1/2" wide with a max length of about 60" and minimum of about 38". You could shave off roughly another 3" from that minimum by getting the shoulder pad out of the way. The strap ring and slide are painted-black metal. It seems like this bag should last forever even considering that I'm not gentle with purses. All in all, it's about perfect for my ironically-ugly purse needs.
I absolutely love my shoulder bag and use it as a purse. It's very nice and sturdy. I love the olive drab. The strap is nice and long. The zipper pockets work wonderfully and are very convenient. I will definitely be ordering another one if/when this one wears out.
Heads-up to guys out there: This bag looks a little bit too feminine for my tastes. I had purchased this with the intention of using it to carry around a 7-inch tablet, wifi hotspot, and some minor toiletries (some pill pouches, a travel pack of baby wipes, hand sanitizer, etc.) It fits all of the items I wanted to carry around just fine. But it really does look much more like a women's purse than a manly satchel. I like the fact that it has magnets and zippers instead of velcro. The strap is nice and long. I weigh 400 pounds and I can carry this crossbody, with the bag sitting at my hip. I also have Rothco H/W Canvas Classic Passport Travel Pouch, Black, and this bag holds about twice as much as the Rothco bag.
Nice comfortable handbag - lots of handy pockets.
